The purpose of the project is to test autonomous vehicles as part of the public transport system in Tampere's Hervanta area.

Several similar experiments have been carried out in the Hervanta region, focusing mainly on the validation of the technology of automatic vehicles. The Hervanta area is connected to the city centre with a tram connection, which has created a need to improve the accessibility of tram traffic.

On the route, it would also be possible to implement a solution based on traditional bus traffic, which, however, are not sufficiently cost-effective.
Automated solutions can improve the accessibility of public transport and thus increase its value for end users, and at the same time bring significant cost savings to the public transport providers.
